When you come to our clinic you may be referred to see a Sexual Health Advisor. You may receive a letter asking you to come back to the clinic to see the Sexual Health Adviser.
Sexual Health Advisers can help with lots of issues around sexual health.
They can discuss HIV/ Hepatitis testing in detail:
- assessing your level of risk
- discussing your worries or concerns about HIV/ Hepatitis
- providing accurate information on protecting yourself from infection
- arranging appointments for results and giving results
If you are diagnosed an STI (e.g. chlamydia) you may be referred to the Health Advisor to:
- discuss the infection and the problems it can cause
- find out how to protect yourself from infection
- be given treatment for infection and advice on how to take it properly
- talk about at ways of letting your sexual partners know about so that they can get treatment
Health advisers can also help (in person, or over the phone) with:
- General advice regarding sexual health
- Advice on HIV/Hepatitis for patients, relatives and carers
- To discuss HIV and Hepatitis testing
- For ongoing support to men and women who have been sexually assaulted
- To discuss issues of sexuality
- Following accidental possible exposure to HIV – following a needlestick injury or unprotected sex with someone known to be HIV positive
